People judge these movies by the wrong standards... and standards are just that; a mold for cutting cookies in which some "artifacts" just don't fit. If you are looking for something outlandish and, most of all, fun above anything else, this is the right choice. Sure this movie has the most "atrocious" dialogue this side of Troll 2 and Hell of the Living Dead, but is just as contagious and quotable. In narrative and theatrical terms, this is a complete disaster, but John Henry Johnson, who handled most of the main departments in the actual film making, does a great job. The story and the concept of this film, my first ever exposure to the Lovecraft brand of horror, is wildly imaginative and far fetched enough, that it is commendable in itself that it got made in the first place. And yep, the best part, like most people who have written about this movie say, is the special effects and make up, but is not limited to that, if you are willing to think outside the Roger Ebert and Rotten Tomatoes box. This movie made it all the way to Mexican home video as Destello Azul, in which form I first experienced. A hidden gem reminiscent of Night of the Living Dead, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or I Drink your Blood on the upside, and Manos the Hands of Fate on the downside. Your call, but it's definitely worth at least one viewing.
