In 1977 London based UFO, released their 6th studio album "Lights Out". 1976's "Heavy Petting", to me was a complete bust after their strong "Force It", the year before, the album had no feel and the songs just didn't click. Here Phil Mogg, vocals, Michael Schenker guitar, Paul Raymond keyboards, Pete Way bass and Andy Parker drums delivered a rockin' classic here. Produced by Ron Nevison, who produced some of the heavy weights of hard rock. Paul Raymond joined the band on this release, replacing Danny Peyronnel. Recorded at the famed Air Studios, owned by Beatle producer George Martin, who would produce UFO's "No Place To Run", in 1980, but that's another review. "Lights Out", starts off with the smoldering classic "Too Hot To Handle", Schenker's guitar is really tuned on this one. Paul Raymond on keyboards and Schenker give "Just Another Suicide", it's flavor, great song. The ballad "Try Me", solid tune, strings added to the affect ,(the first crack in the armor with Pete Way), Schenker's guitar solo is a god send. The title track is UFO at their most powerful, Phil's vocals are a hit, "Lights Out, Lights Out in London". "Getting Ready", maybe not their best tune off the album, but Michael's guitar saves this one. They really do the Love cover "Alone Again Or", a great reading, even the horns are tops, no shame at all. "Electric Phase", Schenker does it again and then you get "Love To Love", from the beginning with Parker's gong, to Raymond's keyboards and the bass playing of Way, this song scores a 100 in the hard rock markets. Mogg's vocals are just right on this, Schenker's guitar is killer, nice strings too. "Misty Green And Blue", great ending, it just ends. The bonus tracks are live numbers from the album. Great release from UFO!
