Originally released on LP as SALUTE TO THE FLUTE - The 1990 CD is 9 tracks 45 minutes - When Lights are Low - Little Niles - Piano Roll Blues - Pretty Baby - Beautiful Love - Hip Scotch - Song For Ruth - Noga's Nuggets - A Ritual - From the late 1950's Big Band, Octet and Quartet with Joe Puma tracks intermixed - Herbie for the most part plays in the lower register of a C concert flute rather than the alto flute which would later bring him fame and fortune. Other lesser known horn men give the session a boost. Trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax and trombone have at least 2 solos each on the album. A bit dated, but still OK.
