Ms Frank is one of my favorite writers. Even though her dialog can be a little contrived and unnatural, through her own special magic and an innate ability to draw her readers in to any situation, she earns my eternal devotion with all the books she wrote. Porch Lights is a story about family, loss, grief, learning to live again, and especially about the relationship between mothers and daughters. All of these themes are treated with a light hand, gentle southern humor, and an immersion in low country living. After reading many of her books, I'm just obsessed with the Low country. That is the special magic of Dorothea Benton Frank. I'm so sad she passed away and that I will never again be able to enjoy her unique, magnetic voice, style, humor and all the tales of the low country.
